Learning from Japan
The big topic in 2000 was mobile phone services. A network operator commissioned us to examine the Japanese market. We did an in-depth analysis of the i-mode success story. Our trend reporters concluded contracts with Japanese network operators themselves, translated the provisions of the contracts, and interviewed users as well as retail businesses. We were able to analyse why the historic development of the Japanese market made the i-mode phenomenon possible and what preconditions would have had to be created for a similar success on the German and European markets.
